What is Costume Jewerly? Part IV
The 1930's
the 1930's brought the "Great Depression". The Flapper look was over and the glamorous Movie Stars of Hollywood were now the new role models for women everywhere. Fashion magazines promoted the "Hollywood Look" and movie stars such as Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo were idolized. Everything "Hollywood" was copied and mass - produced.
Women at home wanted to emulate the look of the Saturday matinees. Buying new clothing was out of the question for most women of this time but an inexpensive bauble added that much needed spark of glitter and glamour!
So as the depression grew so did the demand for costume jewelry! It could be bought anywere from the most expensive jewelers to the corner dimestore.
Costume Jewerly was just what the women of America wanted and needed during these dark times.
