What is Vintage Costume Jewelry ? Part III

The 1920's

The 1920's was a time when the nation came alive! World War I had ended and the women rejoiced!! No longer content with the demure, frilly femininity of their mothers, these girls hiked up their skirts, bobbed their hair and even smoked in public.....

The style called for androgynous dressing. Women wore men's smoking jackets, cufflinks, shirts and ties. The look was sparse to say the least and new styles  of jewelry were demanded by these independant women of fashion. Lock the old diamonds in the safes , the 1910's demanded a new style.

The great French designer , Coco Chanel heard the call and responded!  Her designs were trimmed in rhinestones, crystals and ropes of pearls. Her long lean profiles stimulated a whole new industry to keep up with the demands of her new fashion style and of the women who wore them.
